He stays up for days on end.

He clutches the cross hanging on his chain next to his dog tags.

He knows he may not see some of his buddies again.

He walks the streets, searching for insurgents and terrorists.

He wears his heavy gear, not daring to take off his helmet to wipe his brow.

He crawls under a tank for shade and a 5 minute nap, only to be woken by gunfire.

You sit there and judge him, saying the world is probably a worse place because of men like him.

So true, so true. I was in the first conflict and there aren't any better words that could be spoken.


It is a thankless job doing ones duty. Sadly, looking at some of the comments to your letter, there are some very ignorant and unappreciative people out there.


I can simply say this, if you don't like it here, leave. My friends died for you to have that choice. Don't poison this country with your bad attitude, go elsewhere.Yes i have hurd people talk crap about our troops !?

Yes I have seen this e-mail before and it is great because I am currently in Afghanistan, and if people that want to answer you rudly they are probably just the way the people are in every second part of those statements. I do hope that you agree and see that all of those statements are true in every aspect. People can be such @sses sometimes.
People who attack the character of our soldiers are simply misplacing their blame. Instead of facing the governing powers, voting, and trying to make a difference in their communities and countries-- they go around bashing people, discriminating, isolating, and demeening people in order to make themselves feel better about themselves.





God bless America, where these narrow-minded souls have the right to say such things - but I'll defend to my very death, their right.

we should be in afghanistan in full force making sure the country is safe and nailing bin laden's *** to the wall, not jacking around in iraq making the world safe for halliburton and exxon.

You forgot one thing in this question/message: The FACT that there are WOMEN also serving our nation in tours everywhere around the world, and that the WOMEN's children are missing their mommy, they are leaving their Husbands at home (or siblings, parents, whatever), that they too do not shower regularly or have their hair done, etc etc etc

Howldy felix I could understand your feelings if I heard that sort of crap. Fortunately I don't, I do hear a lot of dissing of the president and his gang of chicken hawks. Dissing the president doesn't mean dissing the troops. My favorite saying is support the troops fire bush! I am one of those veterans with 2 wars under my belt. Iran/Iraq, Desert shield/storm. Ps the navy still needs hot tempered cute red heads!
